Schedule your injection at a time when minor swelling or bruising will not disrupt your social obligations. Each time that you are treated, outcomes may vary.
You may consider taking Arnica Montana, a homeopathic medicine starting the day of treatment and continuing for three additional days. Follow the instructions on the package.
To decrease your chance of bruising or bleeding discontinue the use of blood thinning products for 7-10 days before treatment. These include Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil® or Motrin®),
Naproxen, Aleve®, fish oil, St John’s Wart, Flax, Vitamin E, Vitamin D, Garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, Warfarin, Eliquis®, Lovenox®, Plavix®, Xarelto®, Pradaxa®, Heparin. Even alcoholic beverages can thin blood and should be avoided at least 24 hours prior to treatment.
If you have concerns about discomfort you may take Tylenol® (If not contraindicated) one hour prior to your appointment.
Please have a snack or light meal prior to your appointment.
Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.
Do not touch or rub injected sites for four hours following treatment. Avoid vigorous exercise, straining, heavy lifting, and sweating for four hours or the remainder of the day.
Do not lay down for 3-4 hours after treatment. Do not go into saunas, hot tubs or tanning booths for at least four hours. The toxin takes approximately two hours to bind to the nerve and start its work. We do not want to increase circulation to that area to wash away the neuromodulator from where it was injected.
Avoid any facial, laser treatments, microdermabrasion, or massage for 48 hours after treatment.
You may try frowning, and raising your eyebrows for about an hour after your treatment. These exercises are not necessary but they may lead to a better result.
There can be a slight chance of bruising at the treated site, this is temporary. Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours of treatment.
Ideally do not apply makeup for four hours after treatment to avoid manipulating the treatment area and clogging injection sites with oils/bacteria.
The result of your treatment can take up to 14 days for full effect. This time varies from patient to patient and even treatment to treatment. Usually patients notice a change in 4-5 days. It takes time for the muscles to lose strength and the lines to fade following treatment. Please wait until 14 days have passed before assessing if you are pleased with results. At that time you may schedule a follow up to determine the need for a touch up treatment or treatment of other areas. Additional product may be purchased at the per-unit rate.
Treatment will usually need to be repeated in 3-4 months interval for several treatments to receive best possible outcomes. You may find that you are able to lengthen the interval after several treatments. This varies from patient to patient.
After your treatment you may experience redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and areas of firm nodules may occur. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling for 5-10 minutes every 2-3 hours. If the inconvenience continues beyond a few days or if other reactions or side effects occur, please contact your provider
If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact the office immediately: dusky or white discoloration of injected areas, mottling or unusual bruising, severe or increasing pain, redness, increasing warmth or coolness to touch, severe swelling, itching, blisters, difficulty swallowing or smiling, fever, chills and any visual impairment. Please call immediately 602-284-0021.
Cosmetic fillers are long lasting, but not permanent. Longevity depends on the area treated, the product used, and your body’s metabolism.
Preferably do not apply anything to the skin for the first day.
Avoid heavy exercise the day of treatment.
Avoid excessive heat, hot yoga, saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds, and sun tanning for 72 hours post treatment.
Do not massage, touch, or manipulate the injection sites.
Sleeping with head of bed elevated can reduce swelling.
You may take Acetaminophen/Tylenol® if you are experiencing mild discomfort.
If you would like to minimize the risk of bruising you may consider the use of Arnica Montana (a homeopathic medication), either in ointment or pill form or Bromelain (a homeopathic medication). Please follow medication instructions.
Good nutrition not only helps the healing process but helps the body grow and maintain it’s own collagen.
For Sculptra recipients ONLY: Massage injected areas for 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days. Apply moisturizer to skin before massage to prevent irritation.
